Rain, Rainbows, and Retro Vibes: A Golden Hour Session at Erwin Park

There is a specific kind of magic that only happens in North Texas. One minute, you’re looking at a clear sky, and the next, a patch of summer storms begins to roll across the horizon. Most people might see dark clouds and think "reschedule," but for Charlee and Mitchell’s session at Erwin Park, we decided to embrace the chaos—and I am so glad we did.

The Beauty of the "In-Between"

This shoot was all about the documentary feel. I wanted to move away from stiff, traditional posing and instead capture the way Charlee and Mitchell actually move together. We leaned heavily into a film-like aesthetic, utilizing rich textures, heavy grain, and that organic, candid energy that makes a photo feel like a still from a movie.

Dancing in the Rain

Right as golden hour hit its peak, the clouds decided to open up. It wasn't a downpour, but a light, sun-drenched rain that caught the light perfectly. Seeing them embrace in the middle of a field while the droplets fell around them (and the sun continued to glow!) was a photographer's dream.

That’s the beauty of a candid style—it allows for these spontaneous moments. When the rain started, we didn't run for cover; we just kept shooting.

A Gift from the Storm

Just when we thought the light couldn't get any better, the storm left us a parting gift: a full rainbow. Seeing Charlee and Mitchell hand-in-hand, running toward the horizon with a rainbow arched over the Texas trees, felt like a literal fairytale.

Why This is a Favorite

From the tailgate of the truck to the motion-blurred piggyback rides, this gallery represents everything I love about photography. It’s not just about a "pretty picture"—it’s about the grain, the movement, the mood, and the raw connection between two people.

Charlee and Mitchell, thank you for trusting my vision and for being willing to get a little rained on. This session is proof that when you stop worrying about being "perfect," you find something much better: something real.

If you’re looking for photos that feel like you (and you don't mind a little Texas weather adventure), I’d love to chat. Whether it’s McKinney, Dallas, or beyond—let’s go find some magic.
